The next Immigration Minister of Canada
The lottery today also represents the final selection of Express Entry candidates under former Immigration Minister Rachel Bendayan.
Lena Metlege Diab, Canada's newly appointed Immigration Minister, will oversee future draws. Today, May 13, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the appointment of Minister Diab as Canada's next Minister of Immigration.
Prime Minister Carney is now well-positioned to implement many of the immigration measures he previously supported, thanks to the appointment of a new Immigration Minister. These consist of:
By 2027, the number of new permanent residents in Canada should stabilize at 1% of the total population;
an increase in the number of francophone immigrants to Canada;
Restructuring the nation's Global Talent Stream (GTS) to draw in the "best and brightest" in order to support the Canadian employment market; and
a decrease in the number of temporary residents (those with employment and study permits) in Canada.
