PR CARD RENEWAL

As a permanent resident, a valid permanent resident card is always required if you are traveling outside Canada. Without a valid PR card, your entry will be denied at the port of entry and you may not be able to board the plane or the ship. You are still a permanent resident if your PR card expires, however, it is always recommended to renew your PR card before its expiration.

Important Facts

As per the law, one must be physically present in Canada for 730 days during the last five years to maintain the permanent resident status. There are few things to remember when applying for the renewal of your PR card.

  1. Apply for the renewal of your PR card when it expires or as early as nine months before its expiration.

  2. Avoid traveling outside Canada without a valid PR card to avoid any complications while you return to Canada.

  3. Plan ahead (timeline-wise) if you are planning to travel abroad and wanting to renew your PR card as timelines may vary with IRCC to get your new card.

Applying for the renewal process can sometimes be overwhelming, therefore, it is recommended to seek the advice of a regulated immigration consultant who can assure that all the formalities are been taken care of before applying.

At Gogna immigration we strive to provide excellent service to our clients. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding the renewal of the permanent resident card process.
